Olds Elevator LLC, Hudson, NH has successfully elevated granular activated carbon from underwater, leaving the water behind. In a test for a customer seeking to move activated carbon from a quench tank used to cool the carbon, Olds Elevator raised saturated carbon granules from below water 15 feet. Elevated material was returned to the flooded feed hopper for recycling. Particle attrition was measured over a 16 hour test period and found to be insignificant.
The testing proved that an Olds elevator can be mounted above a quench tank with the lower end of its lift tube and static screw submerged in the tank to elevate the solid portion of the tank’s contents while leaving the liquids in the tank.
